PlayGround-LA Company in the News Sep-16

See what PlayGround-LA Writers are up to as we prepare for the season opening October 3 round of Monday Night PlayGround. 

Ken Cosby's short play HELLO? was presented as part of "A Light In Dark Places: A Collection Of Plays For Hope" at Stella Adler Theatre along with Jonathan Kuhn’s Looking Forward, in acknowledgement of Suicide Prevention week and presented in association with PlayGround-LA and PlayGround. Ken’s 10-minute play, KEEP YOUR HEAD UP, SKIP, was selected for production as part of the International Hollywood Short and Sweet Festival on Sat. September 17 & Sunday September 18th at 2pm. Susan C. Hunter recently produced a one-act play festival at WriteAct Repertory in Hollywood, featuring the talents of 8 Los Angeles playwrights.  Among the writers was PlayGround-LA's Elayne Heilveil whose piece, The Maestro, was a standout. Hunter's play, A Hill Too High, was also included in the line-up. 

Vincent Terrell Durham is excited to announce the West Coast Premiere of his new stage play THE FERTILE RIVER. The production will enjoy a 3-performance run, October 14-16, 2016, at ACME Hollywood Theatre. Jeremy Kehoe’s full-length, Movin’ on Up (www.movinonuptheplay), just completed a run at the 2016 New York International Fringe Festival (www.fringenyc.org), Aug. 12 - 28, and his 10-minute play, Existential Magic Eight Ball, is currently running at the Short + Sweet Hollywood Festival (www.shortandsweet.org/festivals/shortsweet-hollywood). 

Kathleen Cecchin's short film PAM will screen at the Lady Filmmakers Festival in Beverly Hills on September 23. Kathleen will be appearing in NEO Ensemble’s Airport Encounters at the Lounge Theater, opening on September 30  and running through October 16.

Tracy Held Potter will be presenting 20 minutes of music and libretto from her screenplay, Science Fair the Musical, in the Musical Cafe Showcase November 12-14 at PianoFight in San Francisco. http://www.musicalcafe.org 

Nicholas Pilapil most recently produced the critically acclaimed world premiere of The Two Kids That Blow Shit Up by Carla Ching with Artists at Play and was accepted into The Vagrancy's 2016/17 Vagrant Writers Group. He is currently producing Two Mile Hollow by Leah Nanako Winkler, which will have a developmental staged reading in October, at Oregon Shakespeare Festival as part of the National Asian American Theater Conference and Festival. Nicholas also executive produced and co-wrote the debut album Trust by singer-songwriter Michael Barnum, which will be released on September 30, 2016. 

Last month, Jonathan Josephson's play Grandpa and the Gay Rabbi was named one of the winners of the 2016 Samuel French Off-Off Broadway Play Festival at Classic Stage Company in NYC. The play will be included in a Sam French anthology next summer. 

Howard Ho just completed a Center Theatre Group Literary Fellowship. He is currently developing a new play through the Vagrancy Writers Group for 2016-2017. 

Lena Ford has a reading of her new play, Hillary, Sunday, Oct. 2 at Theatricum in Topanga.

Elayne Heilveil has pieces in the upcoming Best Ten-Minute Plays of 2016 (Lost and Found) and Best Monologues of 2017 (The Tango).  She is currently directing Steve Nevil’s Welcome to Heretofore opening at Theatre West in October's West Fest. 

Ann-Giselle Spiegler is a member of "Mostly Comedy", an entertainment think tank currently consulting on a limited YA series for Hulu and is adapting her full length play Leaving Vero into a web series. 

Scott Mullen's play PINATA was just performed at Short + Sweet Hollywood, and he has two plays coming up in Neo Ensemble's AIRPORT ENCOUNTERS.
