Never Let It Go
by Jessica Rowe

CHARACTERS
Tyler – Male, 20s-30s, any race.
Ryan – Male, 20-30s, any race.
Stephanie – Female, 20-30s, any race.

An apartment. A couch facing the audience. TYLER is cleaning up. He picks up a shirt off the couch, sniffs it. Not too bad. Another shirt, another sniff—he chokes. No good. He tosses it off-stage.

A quick knock on the door, and then RYAN enters. He is loud, kind of a dick.

RYAN
Game Day! You better have stocked up because I am going to drink until I can’t feel my liver.

TYLER
You’re not supposed to feel your liver, Ryan.

RYAN
Says you.  What are you doing?

TYLER
I’m cleaning up, gimme a sec.

RYAN
Dude, don’t clean! That is not the point of Game Day. There is no clean in Game Day!

TYLER
I can enjoy the game without living like a complete animal.

RYAN
Again, not the point!

He throws himself on the couch. Tyler rolls his eyes, and walks off stage.

TYLER
Make yourself at home. Try not to break anything.

RYAN
(Voice raised) Bro you have no idea how much I need this. If my girlfriend asks me “do these boots match this outfit?” one more time, my face is going to melt off.

TYLER
(off-stage) What?

RYAN
Like, Indiana Jones, Arc of the Covenant style. Just… blerghhaa.

He mines the expression of one’s face melting off, Indiana Jones style. Tyler leans back on-stage.

TYLER
How many times did your mom drop you on your head as a kid? Ballpark figure.

RYAN
Uh—

TYLER
That’s what I thought. What do you want to drink?

RYAN
I’m not a chick, bro. Whatever will get me drunk.

Tyler huffs, leaves. Ryan finds a fancy remote. He randomly presses a bunch of buttons. Finally turns on the TV.

“Let It Go” from Frozen immediately starts playing. Ryan cringes, turns it down.  Tyler enters with beers. Ryan laughs at him.

RYAN (CON’T)
What is this Disney shit, Tyler?

TYLER
Shut up. My sister was here with my niece yesterday. The kid’s obsessed with this movie. She must have forgotten the DVD.

RYAN
Sure.

TYLER
Just change the channel. I don’t ever wanna hear this song again.

RYAN
I dunno, the ice chick’s kinda hot. (pause) I’d hit it.

TYLER
She’s a cartoon.

RYAN
No duh. But if you could

TYLER
You’re a pig.
